MASTER YOUR MIND
In this section, you will learn how to:
· Control your mind in preparation for success
· Develop your personal philosophy
· Handle frustration
· Handle rejection
· Make good choices
When you master your mind, you master your body, you master your actions, you master your relationships with others, and you master your future. The great advantage that human beings have over all other inhabitants of our planet is the freedom to make choices. Mastering your mind begins with making the right choices. It is not always easy to make the right choice and it is sometimes easier to make a wrong choice.
Mastering your mind is a continuous process. It is something you need to do day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year. Before every action that we make, we make a decision or choice. The choice that we make is informed by our past experiences and also depends on the plans that we have for our lives. We cannot change our past, but we all have the power to change our future and to create the future that we desire.
When we do not master our minds, we live by chance, taking life as it comes. This way of living does not prepare us for the frustrations, disappointments and rejections that we all face on a daily basis. To prepare yourself for the setbacks in life, you need to develop a personal philosophy. Your personal philosophy is a set of guidelines, made by you, that will determine how you will respond to any situation before it happens. Your personal philosophy is made up of your principles. It is your personal list of what you will do, and what you will not do under any condition. You have thought about and know how you will react before a situation occurs. You are always one step ahead.
An example for the above follows: A woman is driving to her friend’s birthday party. She knows that alcohol is usually plentiful at parties and she drinks occasionally. Her personal philosophy towards drinking is, never drink and drive, and never get drunk. Many pedestrians and drivers have lost their lives as a result of drink driving. Many women get raped because they are drunk and do not know what they are doing. She would, therefore, not drink alcohol at the party. In planning ahead, however, she might go with friends and they decide who will drink and who will drive before leaving for the party. The woman’s personal philosophy has allowed her to make the right choice. There are many other situations in that one day that will require her to make a choice.
