Learn How To Handle Rejection
Any good salesman will tell you that you have to get through the nos before you get to the yes. Do not waste your energy worrying about the nos; focus on the yes that will come sooner or later. Rejection is a fact of life; we face it every day. The most successful people in the world get the most rejection. Unsuccessful people stop when they get rejected. Successful people’s response to rejection is NEXT! Next interview, next potential customer, next driving test, next career, and so on. The important thing is to learn from each rejection and make adjustments for the next opportunity.
Try not to take rejection personally. If someone does not need your product or service, they are not going to buy it. Move to someone else. If you did not get the job, ask where you went wrong, make adjustments and apply for the next vacancy. You do not have to wait for a vacancy to be advertised. Write a letter and attach your resume to relevant companies. You could even offer to do voluntary work where you will gain valuable experience that might give you the edge over other applicants.
Most people that fail do so because they do not handle rejection well. They hear no and allow it to break their spirit. A better approach is to welcome each no, knowing that it is taking you closer to a yes.
Here is an example:
John was unemployed for twelve months and over that period; he saw fifteen jobs advertised that he was qualified to do. The fifteenth employer was the one that would have seen all the good qualities in John. He applied for fourteen vacancies and was unsuccessful, so he gave up out of frustration. John did most of the hard work and gave up just before he would have been successful.
An excellent personal philosophy that would have helped John to stay the course is: Each rejection that I face makes me stronger because it takes me closer to my goal.
Making Good Choices
There are hundreds of choices facing us every minute of the day. It starts while we are still asleep. Before we go to sleep, we choose whether to set an alarm or not. We choose whether to get up or stay in bed till midday. Each choice that we make is either taking us closer to our goal or taking us away from our goal. It is either taking us closer to excellence or taking us away from excellence. The goal that you set for your life combined with your personal philosophy will guide you to make the right choices.
